As predicted in the previous post, moving and upgrading Wordpress was easy, fast and pleasant.

However, one thing hit me during the process was the memory consumption of Apache. Currently, my 256MB slice has only the OS, Apache and sshd running, but there is almost no free memory left. It will probably be a serious problem later on, so I’m going to take a look at some lightweight web servers. The candidates so far are: lighttpd, Cherokee and Nginx.

1. A server with SSH access, say its address is yourhostname.com.
2. ssh -D 8080 -Nf yourhostname.com
3. Setup browser or other applications to use the proxy with Host: 127.0.0.1 Port: 8080 Type: SOCKS v5.

However, Ubuntu 8.04 came with Firefox 3.0 beta 5, where the old del.icio.us add-on would not work, so I needed to keep a del.icio.us page open in order to post something quickly. That was actually painful, sometimes. I frequently went to Firefox’s add-ons site to check whether there was a new version for Firefox 3 came out, but I always got disappointed.

Fortunately, when I open del.icio.us’ homepage today, I spotted a notification on the top of the page said that there is a “Beta del.icio.us extension for Firefox 3 now available”!

When I logged in my iGoogle today, I immediately spotted a change in the Gmail gadget: There is a checkbox sitting beside each Email title!

When I saw these checkboxes, I thought the Gmail gadget would finally add “Delete” and/or “Report Spam” features, so that I could do “More Actions” right within my iGoogle. But After searching and searching around the gadget, I couldn’t find any new feature out there…

So, what are these checkboxes for? Is it a mistake or is anything new undergoing there?

Fauna is a neat, simplistic and widgets ready theme for WordPress 2.3+ (it works fine in 2.5); but it’s not “simple”. Fauna provides a rich set of features for users to use. For example, you can write your about text, change the header image, change the position of sidebar in its options page and you can even modify theme’s scale mode.

Besides, Fauna has two special features that I love the most: “Sticky-note” and “Sidenotes”. With these two features enabled, my blog is becoming more useful and flexible. One example is that now I can use the sidenotes as my micro-blog platform instead of twitter.com.
